Scholastic achievement is related to factors outside the classroom. The presence of both parents in the home, higher levels of parental involvement, and satisfaction with family life are all positively linked to children’s academic achievement and educational attainment. Youths’ involvement with extracurricular activities and the general level of church attendance in the neighborhood is also linked to students’ investment and performance in school.
