This study examined the link between religious service attendance and pulmonary decline in the elderly.

Among elderly men and women who attended church regularly, the rate of decline in pulmonary function was only about half the rate it was for peers who never attended religious services.

Sample or Data Description
This sample consisted of some 1,174 adults between the ages of 65 and 84. Data came from three waves of the MacArthur Successful Aging Study (1988, 1991, and 1995).
