Finding

This finding looks at the relationship between cohabiting after a divorce and marital happiness in a second marriage.

Respondents who cohabited after divorce or cohabited with their partner in a subsequent marriage reported, on average, lower levels of happiness in the remarriage than remarried respondents who did not cohabit at after the initial divorce.

Sample or Data Description
Three subsamples (1,583, 971, and 926) of remarried respondents of the first wave of the National Survey of Families and Households who were interviewed in 1987 or 1988.
