Finding

This finding looks at the relationship between out-of-wedlock fatherhood and marriage.

Men who became fathers outside of marriage were a third less likely to marry over the next year than comparable men who were not fathers. In addition, men who had a child outside of marriage were nearly twice more likely to cohabit than peers who were not fathers.

Sample or Data Description
Data come from the 1993-wave of National Longitudinal Survey of Youth (NLSY), in which the male respondents ranged in age from 28 to 35.
