Finding

This finding examines the relationship between church participation and civic engagement through participation in charitable and linking organizations.

Controlling for education, income, and age, respondents who participated in religious activities outside religious services were, on average, more likely to report participation in charitable organizations when compared to those who did not report participating in religious activities outside of religious services.

Sample or Data Description
Data come from the 1990 American Citizen Participation Study. The sample consisted of 2,517 individuals aged 18 and over.
