Finding

This finding looks at the relationship between religious belief and charity.

Individuals claiming strongly held religious beliefs were more likely than those without to participate in charitable organizations and also tended to spend more time participating in charitable activities.

Sample or Data Description
In 1999, the author of the study conducted an online survey (on the USA Weekend Online Web site) on individuals’ pro-social behaviors and volunteer habits. Over 1,100 individuals responded to the survey. The author used this sample to study the dispositional correlates of volunteerism.
