This finding looks at the relationship between young adults' marital status and the likelihood that they would turn to their parents at a time of crisis.

Compared with peers who were married, young adults who were cohabiting were less likely to name their parents as the persons they would turn to if a crisis occurred.


Sample or Data Description
Data from the first wave of the 1987/88 National Survey of Families and Households on 3,809 young adult respondentsaged 19-30 who have at least one living parent (biological or step) and report on a variety of exchanges of support with their parents.
