This finding looks at the relationship between family structure and youths’ gang membership.

Thirty-one percent of youths who did not belong to gangs lived with both biological parents, while just 21 percent of current gang members and 19 percent of former gang members lived with both parents.


Sample or Data Description
The sample consisted of 349 urban African-Americans aged 9 to 15 years. The children and adolescents in the sample participated in a crime prevention program.
